Louisiana

Gillian's state project this year was Louisiana. She chose it because she could display it creatively using Mardi Gras and jazz music. She did a good job - she made her poster gold, green and purple and covered it with information on hurricanes, riverboats, swamps and bayous. (I couldn't get the movie, The Rescuers, out of my head the entire time she was working on it.) For her presentation, she played jazz music and decorated her table Mardi Gras style. We were going to make pralines and mint julep, but then remembered that the school doesn't allow homemade treats. I even found my old flapper girl dress in a costume box out in the garage that was just Gillian's size (recognize it, mom?). I taught her the Charleston dance, but she wouldn't dare do it in front of her class. She got a perfect score on the project. Go Gilly!

Your project looks great Gilly! That would be a very fun state to do a project on. Good choice! You look cute in your mom's flapper dress!

That's a really cool assignment. Can you send me what the requirements are for this project. We are trying to figure out how to teach the 50 states. I like this, it looks like she spent a lot of time working on it.
